Manufacturing Management Trainee


Main Purpose of Job

To gain knowledge; understanding and practical skills to enable the jobholder to provide direction, leadership and management to the Manufacturing Team.

Methodology

The Jobholder will spend periods within the Pre Press; Digital Print; Lithographic Print; Print Finishing and Despatch/Fulfilment Departments. The duration of the Traineeship will be a maximum of 2 years with progress reviews occurring every 3 months. The 1st six month period will be a Probationary period. At the completion of the Traineeship, the Jobholder will have acquired knowledge; understanding and practical skills to enable the following to be achieved:

Key Roles and Responsibilities

  • To plan; prioritise and delegate work throughout the Manufacturing facility, involving other team members as appropriate.
  • To motivate the team by giving direction and vision.
  • To set meaningful goals and objectives that will be understood and cascaded through the manufacturing teams.
  • To carry out regular Reviews and provide feedback on performance.
  • To consult with staff, encouraging devolved decision making where appropriate.
  • To use a range of methods to communicate effectively.
  • To identify, organise and evaluate effective development processes.
  • To provide coaching and team building.

Process Improvement

  • To allocate and monitor workloads.
  • To set performance objectives and targets.
  • To constantly monitor and appraise skill base and make effective plans for future development.

Security and Safety

  • To take responsibility for designated Departmental health and safety issues.
  • To be involved in carrying out risk assessments

Communication

The Jobholder reports to the Operations Manager.
The Jobholder will work with the Personnel Manager in order to achieve CPD and progress toward Membership of a Professional Body as appropriate.
The Jobholder will also maintain effective contacts throughout the Company: Manufacturing; Pre-press; Despatch; Account Managers; Suppliers; Warehouse etc.


Conditions of Employment

Standard hours of work: 0830 – 1645h – Monday to Friday, actual hours worked will reflect needs of the job. Some shift working will be required to correspond to hours worked in various Departments. Normal shift working is 0600 – 1400h and 1400 – 2200h; alternate week shifts.
